READ ABOUT SOME OF THE LEARNING BEING COVERED IN YEAR 5/6 THIS HALF TERM:
In Literacy, we are reading 'Deadly Dare Mysteries' by Malorie Blackman for our class novel. We are writing warning stories and character descriptions, concentrating on using figurative language. For our poetry week, we will be reading 'Macavity' by T.S.Elliot.
The children have spelling lessons in year groups and take part in daily basic skills to improve punctuation and grammar.
Year 5/6 were taught Science every Tuesday Miss Steel and they are looking at living things, comparing life cycles and habitats. The children are investigating food chains and reproduction in plants.
In mathematics, the children take part in daily basic skills, including target work, to improve the fluency of maths. This half term the target is 'Written methods for multiplication'. Each day we complete warm up tasks which practice skills in place value and times tables. We are also revising using all four operations to problem-solve, calculating area and perimeter, investigating 3D shapes and working out mean.
They also covered the following non-core subjects:
There will be an ICT DAY with Mr Brown where the children will be programming robots. We will also be organising a topic day
Homework was set every Thursday and was due back in to school on Tuesday. It comprised literacy, numeracy and occasionally a project based task linked to one or more non-core subjects.
