Backworth Park Primary School

RESPECT. RESILIENCE. RESPONSIBILITY.

Homework

At Backworth Park Primary School, homework and home learning opportunities are designed to consolidate and enhance learning in school.  Activities are intended to be engaging and manageable for children and families. Homework will be set and accessed using the Purple Mash learning platform.

Reading

At Backworth Park Primary school children read with an adult daily. It is expected that parents and carers read with children at home to develop fluency, comprehension and a love of reading.

Children will be provided with reading books aligned to their current reading abilities using Read Write Inc, PM Benchmark or free choice reading books. Children will also have the opportunity to choose reading for pleasure books which can be shared at home.

English

Children will be set weekly spelling activities closely linked to English or Phonics learning in school. There will be opportunities throughout the week for children to practise these spellings in school, in addition to learning at home.

Maths

Children will be set weekly Maths activities closely linked to the 'Big Maths Beat That' ongoing assessments or current in school learning.

Wider Curriculum

Each half term, children will be given three home learning opportunities based on the wider curriculum such as Science, History, Geography, Art and Design Technology units that are being taught in school.
