Main School Admissions

The Local Authority is the Admissions Authority for Reception and beyond Year 6.  The North Tyneside

Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme below explains admission arrangements for Reception.  A similar guide can be found on the North Tyneside Council website for admission to High School (please follow link below).  A number of criteria are strictly applied when applications are considered and places offered.  It is essential that applications are made by the published deadline dates.  At the end of Year 6, the majority of our pupils usually transfer to George Stephenson High School.

From September 2019, the Published Admission Number (PAN) for pupils in Reception to Year 6 will remain at 45. This increased in September 2018 as the school expanded in preparation for the move to the new school premises.  Currently, some classes are under 30 children, whilst others are at 30 or over. There are also some mixed-age classes.

For applications after the start of the school year, parents must complete an in-year application form and submit it directly to School Admissions.  If a child currently attends another North Tyneside school, the application must have been discussed with the Headteacher or appropriate member of staff. Please see link below.

Nursery Admissions:

The school manages its own Nursery admission arrangements.  The admission number is 26 pupils per session.  Currently the Nursery is open for the morning session only, however school is able to offer a 30-hour provision to some nursery pupils.

Parents are advised that having a Nursery place at Backworth Park is no guarantee that a Reception place will be offered by the Local Authority.
